Immerse yourself in the wild with a workshop that combines epic landscapes alongside a historic town amidst the unique Alaskan mountain culture of the Wrangells.

Meet at the Old Hardware Store at 9am for welcome and registration. Workshop portion concludes at 6pm after which there will be a group dinner and closing at the Old Hardware Store, with time to chat, share photos, and debrief our thoughts from the day.

 

The workshop will have three emphases:

1) Architectural photography: Learn the art of capturing arrested decay amidst the structures of the century-old mining town of Kennicott, with the author of Abandoned Alaska: Copper, Gold and Rust (2020)

2) Landscape: Immerse yourself in the remote wilderness of America's largest National Park, Wrangell St. Elias.

3) Portraiture: Take home tips on capturing the look and feel of people in the off-grid community of Kennicott-McCarthy.

Other Details: All skill levels welcome, and all equipment welcome! Everything from iPhones to high-end SLR cameras. Maximize your use of on-the-fly iPhone pics or gain advanced insights and experience into using your equipment in a wilderness setting.

About Paul

Paul is a London-based published author (Abandoned Alaska: Copper, Gold and Rust, 2020) skilled at prose that illuminate his photography. An experienced photography guide and former WMC Artist in Residence, Paul has spent significant time in and around the Wrangells, hiking and flying out to remote locations to chronicle America's fading frontier history and witness the irresistible drama of nature recapturing its territory.

About Anna

Anna grew up in the Czech Republic and is currently based in Alaska. Her photographs and artist books have been exhibited nationally and internationally, and are held in private collections in the United States and the Czech Republic. She is also a writer and her essays were published in The Maine Arts Journal and in the British journal On Landscape.
