The Wild Alpine Community Photography Group with Anna Mikuskova is a community of photographers who will gather through the summer and nurture image-makers of all levels.

The group will meet bi-weekly for approximately two-hour sessions filled with presentations, creative exercises, and group discussions of participants’ photographs taken in the previous weeks. A ‘less is more’ gear philosophy is encouraged so you can focus on creative energy. Any digital camera, whether DSLR or smartphone, will work. Come for one session to meet local photographers and receive feedback on your work, or participate the entire summer to bring your work to the next level.

This group will culminate with an exhibition at the Wrangell Mountain Center. The sessions will encourage participants to share their work in a collaborative, educational, and fun atmosphere. We will discuss effective camera techniques, lighting, composition, depth-of-field, and exposure issues, as well as image content with a focus on how to make images that are meaningful and go deeper than “postcard’ pictures of landscape.

Throughout the summer, the group will edit everyone’s visual narrative that emerges from each participant’s weekly images. Photographers will be expected to think not only in terms of a single image but will be encouraged to think of telling a story with a group of photographs. These stories can be broad in scope or centered around a narrower theme. In August, we will share and celebrate everyone’s final narrative with a collective exhibition at the Old Hardware Store.

About Anna

Anna grew up in the Czech Republic and is currently based in Alaska. Her photographs and artist books have been exhibited nationally and internationally, and are held in private collections in the United States and the Czech Republic. She is also a writer and her essays were published in The Maine Arts Journal and in the British journal On Landscape.
