The Kennecott Recreation Hall, situated in the heart of historic Kennecott, Alaska, is available for weddings, conferences and special events. Built in 1916, it once hosted silent films, dances, and Christmas pageants for mill workers and their families. Today it provides space for a variety of interpretive, educational, community, and recreational activities. This newly restored hall, nestled between the mountains and the Kennicott Glacier, is part of the Kennecott Mines National Historic Landmark within the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve.

WEDDINGS

The Recreation Hall boasts a bright and spacious venue to host your wedding ceremony and reception in. With a capacity of up to 200 people, you can have your dream wedding in the Wrangell St-Elias National Park without leaving anyone off of the guest list! You can have the epic views of being at the edge of two glaciers within our remote town, while also having access to lodging and food services just a stone’s throw away. Our venue can also be used for live music!

We can be as involved as you would like, helping you plan for outdoor adventure activities for your wedding parties to partake in, we can help with set-up and break-down, or we can simply give you exclusive access to this beautiful space. Pricing

Rental of the Rec Hall for weddings starts at $800. This fee provides your party with exclusive access to the Rec Hall for a full day (quiet time at 10pm and full clean up and lock up by 11pm).

Additional fees may be included to hire staff for set up and break down, administrative support for planning local activities, renting sound equipment, and insurance and additional deposits for the use of alcohol.

Please note that we do not provide decor or party rental supplies.

$300 reservation fee required upon booking. The remainder of total rental fee is due 30 days prior to the event.

$800 refundable security deposit required upon booking.

CONFERENCES AND RETREATS

Hold your event at the Recreation Hall with spectacularly scenic views, conducive to conferences or business meetings and retreats. Lodging and dining available just across the street at the Kennicott Glacier Lodge. Stunning views and incredible outdoor adventures are all at your doorstep in Kennicott — Glacier hiking, Ice climbing, alpine hikes, historical copper mine buildings and more.

One Day Events:

  • Half Day (up to 6 hours) - Starting at $300 for 30 people or less. Prices increase up to $600 dependent on total number of guests.

  • Full Day (6 hours or more) - Starting at $400 for 30 people or less. Prices increase up to $700 dependent on total number of guests.

Multi-Day Events:

  • First Day - Starting at $400 for 30 people or less. Prices increase up to $700 dependent on total number of guests.

  • Additional Days - $300

    $300 reservation fee required upon booking. The remainder of payment is due 30 days prior to the event.

    $300 refundable security deposit required upon booking in the event that alcohol will served.

ATMOSPHERE AND AMENITIES

The historic character and location in the remote wilderness make the Kennecott Recreation Hall different than a commercial banquet hall or big-city convention center. The hall is a rustic, simple building with large windows looking up to the mountains on the east and out over the Kennicott Glacier on the west. Its many windows can be covered with room-darkening shades or left open to the daylight. The space can be set up for a wedding, lecture, conference, reception, dance, party, or any special event.

Kennicott Glacier Lodge (KGL) is located directly across the road from the Rec Hall in Kennecott. A variety of other lodging options exist throughout the valley for visitors to the site, as well. In addition to lodging, KGL can provide catering for those who desire food service in the Rec Hall. Local labor may be employed for hall set-up or clean-up. You can discuss your needs with our representative when you make your reservation, who will be happy to provide more information on rates and available local services and amenities.
